As a life-long resident of the District, Michael has always been known for his hard work, dedication and service to our Community. He has been driven to serve his community from an early age. Mike is well known for working in a bi-partisan collaborative manner to get results. “Mike Brady Works” is a common theme amongst constituents, as well as colleagues.
Born and raised in Brockton’s West Side, Mike grew up in a working-class family. The youngest of three children, Mike learned a strong work ethic, love of family and sense of community. Mike’s father was a dry waller, and his mother was a seamstress in Brockton. Later they owned a local antique business, and were well known at flea markets throughout the South Shore.
At ten-years old when running an errand for his mother, Mike was tragically struck by an automobile. In a coma for a week, he spent two months in the hospital, followed by a lengthy recovery at home. During his hospital stay he received visits from Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito from the Bruins, and also Red Sox and Patriots players. He received “get well” wishes from Senator Ted Kennedy and President Richard Nixon. Mike never forgot this outpouring of kindness of so many from the community, including his many caregivers. Later in his life, this was the catalyst towards Mike’s passion to give back to his community and his public service began.
A Brockton High School Graduate, Mike paid his own way to attend Massasoit Community College by working at local businesses such as Superior Baking Company, Mullare News, and his brother’s-owned company Brady Distributing which distributed bread through Plymouth County.
After graduating from Met Life Insurance School, he was a Massachusetts licensed insurance agent, specializing in life, disability and annuity products. In 1995 Michael started his own insurance agency.
Mike answered the call to public service by first being elected to the Brockton School Committee. In a special election, Mike was elected to the Brockton City Council. He served for over thirteen years as Ward 2 City Councilor (serving as President of the Council for one year.)
In 2008, Mike was elected to serve as State Representative for the 9th Plymouth District. Now in his 4th term he currently serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets. Mike previously served as Vice Chairman of the Committee on Public Safety, as well as held seats on the Ways and Means, Public Health and Economic Development Committees.
Having much experience and dedication for the people of the District, Mike has served the 2nd Plymouth and Bristol District for more than eight years after his election to the Democratic State Committee, as well as serving on the Brockton Democratic City Committee.
As an elected official and homeowner, Mike has served on and volunteered with a wide variety of community organizations including: Save Our Libraries, Safe Neighborhood Initiatives, Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, NAACP, and Gateway Cities.
